We have facilities all across the country, and one of those is our distribution facility in Fontana, CA. The Southern California Distribution facility, or SCD, is a Regional Distribution Center that services 7 satellite warehouses and the surrounding areas for local delivery routes.
Here’s What They Do
This facility is one of the very few that handles all aspects of the business, including cut-table operations, delivery routes, pick and pack, customer will call, pad and much more. The team runs a three-shift operation and works together to ensure all aspects of the distribution side of our business are covered. The Transportation team includes OTR (over the road) drivers, Last Mile (delivery routes to the customer) distribution and port/container operations.
The OTR group handles transfers of product from SCD to the western region satellites, and they have a team of port drivers that pick-up delivery containers from the Long Beach port for both Mohawk and Daltile operations.
Fun Fact: The SCD facility helps our manufacturing operation execute delivery of nearly 10 million pounds of product each quarter to two of our largest customers – Costco and Lowes.
What Is the Team Most Proud Of?
“Our team is well-trained, and we have a great group of people who work here, with 75% of our staff tenured with 20 years or more with Mohawk,” Senior Warehouse Manager Raymond Montalvo said about the distribution area of SCD. “A recent success the team is proud of is reaching one-year injury-free on March 18.”
In the Transportation area at SCD, Director of Regional Operations, Chris Senjem shared that in 2022, SCD’s last mile team delivered 78.8 million pounds of material to our customers while safely driving 714,000 delivery miles with no DOT-preventable crashes.
